55:148 Digital Image Processing

Description


The course will provide mathematical foundations and practical techniques for digital manipulation of images; image acquisition; preprocessing; segmentation; Fourier domain processing; and compression.

Prerequisite: 55:040 - Linear Systems I (or equivalent)

Textbook: Sonka-Hlavac-Boyle: Image Processing, Analysis and Machine Vision, 3rd edition

Collaborative learning environment: The lectures will be held in a 32-seat Hewlett Packard Quantitative Imaging Electronic Classroom that facilitates interactive instruction and collaborative learning. Thus, students will actively participate in lectures.

Computer Projects: Students will be required to successfully complete several computer projects that are designed to substantially enhance their practical experience.
