17 November 2009 - You must authenticate and use a secure connection to read and send mail.

19 October 2009 - Email quotas increased. Students = 500MB; faculty & staff = 1 GB.

29 September 2009 - Engineering Connect2 VPN announced and described in the September issue of the Essentials newsletter. This issue includes information student Abaqus downloads, the new 2301 computer lab, changes to the connections to Linux using NX Client, and MATLAB seminars you can attend on campus.

24 September 2009 - Adjusted Engineering account password rules slightly to more closely match the Hawk ID password rules.

24 August 2009 - New computer lab open in 2301 Seamans Center. You'll find 6 Linux workstations, 34 Windows Vista computers, and 1 laser printer in that room. The door is on electronic hold open from 7:30am-5:30pm Monday through Friday. At all other times use your Seamans Center access card to get into the lab. Pick up your access card in 1256 SC.

6 July 2009 - System downtime completed. Do you have problems or questions about the changes? Call CSS at 319-335-5055 or read about the engin domain. Note that on CSS-administered computers, select the Engin domain when you login. On non-CSS managed computers, you must map drives to engin.uiowa.edu (rather than engr.uiowa.edu).

18 May 2009 - New password tool. Go there now to enroll. How to use the password tool.

11 May 2009 - New document on changed path for home directory that came with Engin domain.

Essentials Newsletter

The most recent information about the changes, additions, and plans in CSS and the Engineering Computer Network is in the CSS newsletter Essentials. The contents page has all published issues. Each issue is in PDF format. The most recent issue of the newsletter was published in September 2009. Read about the Connect2 virtual private network (VPN), which gives you a secure connection to your files when you are off campus. Essentials is available only on-line, in color, and at all times of day and night.
