SWEPT VOLUMES

A page dedicated to research concerning swept volumes; applications, implementations, and future research thrusts.

THE SWEPT VOLUME COMMUNITY

Raison D’etre

There has been a surge of literature and applications that have used SWEPT VOLUME Technology. For example, and despite important recent advances in solid modeling of rigid bodies, representation of complex solid bodies can now be performed using sweep techniques to yield very complex solids. Similarly, in the ROBOTICS industry, swept volume technology is implemented for the determination of workspace, for dexterity analysis, and path verification. In MILITARY applications, potential collision of two swept projectiles can be predicted using sweep mathematics. In writing scripts such as Chinese, Indian, or Arabic, sweep methods are used to generate accurate scripts. The potential for developing more profound mathematics for this field is imminent.

We believe that a SWEPT VOLUME page will aid researchers in:

  1. Identifying research thrusts where this technology can make a significant impact.
  2. Identify application areas and commercial technologies where swept volume can be used.
  3. Inetgrating state-of-the-art methods and formulations pertaining to swept volumes.
